The casting picks for Haymitch Abernathy and Lenore Dove have been decided, so for other aspiring stars who wish to be a part of the Hunger Games prequel, “May the odds be ever in your favour!”

Haymitch, who is the protagonist of Suzanne Collins’ fifth book in the well-known dystopian series, will be played by Joseph Zada.

The beloved character’s girlfriend, Lenore, from Sunrise on the Reaping, will be represented by Whitney Peak.

“The Hunger Games franchise has long been a launching pad for remarkable young actors, and Jo and Whitney carry that legacy forward with incredible heart, depth, and fire,” noted Erin Westerman to Deadline.

The Lionsgate co-president went on to state that the pair was cast after a substantial number of auditions took place.

Nina Jacobson, a producer on the franchise also told the outlet, “When we put the two of them together, it was one of those magical casting moments when you know your search has led you home.”

The highly anticipated film, slated to release on November 20, 2026, will take viewers back to the dawn of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games.

The prequel follows Katniss Everdeen’s mentor from District 12, Haymitch, as he navigates being chosen for the grim annual event.

What is the concept of the Hunger Games?

The Hunger Games is a yearly event, which takes place in the fictional nation of Panem. It is a televised, fatal, battle royale which chooses contestants, a young girl and boy, from each of the twelve districts the population is divided into.
