The Catholic Church is looking forward to appoint their new head following the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88 who served the papacy for more than 12 years.

With the first papal conclave being held in 12 years, the interest in the process spiked the viewership of the movie Conclave.

The mystery thriller, which features Ralph Fiennes, shows the assembly of the cardinals in The Vatican who come together to cast vote for the new Pope. 

The procedure is about to be translated in to reality as the secret meeting will be held in the days to come.

After the pontiff's demise, the streaming networks saw a huge surge in watchers up to 283%, according to Variety.

The eight-time Oscar nominated movie’s viewership minutes increased from 1.8 million on April 20 to 6.9 million a day after the "Vicar of Christ" died.

The 2024 motion picture is available on various streaming platforms including Amazon’ Prime Video where it is currently free to watch.

What is Conclave based on?

Based on the 2016 novel by Robert Harris, the movie features Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Isabella Rossellini. The fictional story revolves around the back-channel gathering to nominate new pontiff.
