The highly successful Season 2 of AppleTV+’s Severance came to an end recently, leaving fans with intense cliffhangers and unanswered questions.
Not ones to be left behind, viewers have begun taking to social media to theorize about what could happen in the coming season, as well as what they wish to see.
One fan took to X to try and guess at the theme for Season 3, writing, “season focus: since season one was about childhood (pushing the limits of rebellion while still fearing punishment) and season two about adolescence (outright rebellion no matter the consequences, self-definition through difference), then season three might be about entering adulthood, the kind of college mindset period where the innies start not only to question but define their world, when they gain more agency to participate in the power system (hello spirit of kier in helly).”
About the possible misogyny behind the severance process, a user mused, “notice also how, except for the workers at lumon, the people we've seen severed are all women... birthing retreat, testing on gemma... ik ppl r talking abt it already but it rlly is abt another way to control women.”
Other theories said, “Are we gonna have a full Innie revolt in Severance season 3? The departments are going to work together to fight back against lumon. They're gonna unionize!!!,” and “Severance My main theory going into season 3 is that due to the breadth of the psychological torture with Gemma she will be a main whistleblower for Lumon. Once she's free, she leads Mark around the facility. She has the most intel and the most rationale to organize a revolt.”
