Nicki Minaj, who has earned recognition as the “Queen of Rap”, gets a nod of approval from one of the greatest platforms.
Nicki has now been crowned the best female rapper of all time by Billboard, which follows her long list of accolades acquired over her career as a hip-hop artist.
The American magazine’s definitive ranking was released on April 7, with the Girl On Fire singer placing ahead of other iconic rappers such as Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill and Lil’ Kim.
The ranking was based on a set criterion, which included elements such as vocal flow, cultural impact charted singles, album certifications, longevity and storytelling ability.
It is no secret that Nicki’s influence extends beyond just her music, with the message of embracing unapologetic individuality, she has made waves in the beauty and entertainment industries.
However, Billboard reminded the music world of how Nicki has changed the rap game, adding with their ranking, “The Queens icon became the first female rapper to eclipse triple-digit Billboard Hot 100 hits in 2018 (with 149 entries to her name as of publishing) and her connection to the Barbz remains stronger than ever, as the Pink Friday 2 World Tour became the highest-grossing tour for a female rapper in history.”
The Super Bass singer recognises her worth, as she sang in her 2018 hit, Chun-Li, “Oh, I get it, huh, they paintin' me out to be the bad guy / Well it's the last time you gonna see a bad guy do the rap game like me,” referring to the numerous damaging articles published about her in 2017.
