Blackpink surprised fans with their latest music video for JUMP, receiving mixed reactions.
The highly anticipated song, released on July 11, garnered over 19 million views on YouTube within hours.
In just one hour after its release, JUMP achieved 1 million likes, surpassing their previous record for the Pink Venom music video.
However, fans noticed a technical issue where the likes count temporarily exceeded the views, prompting YouTube to address the glitch caused by “a rapid surge in traffic.”
Directed by David Meyers, the experimental concept drew mixed reactions with a few fans criticising the poor use of CGI and lack of choreography, despite the song’s techno-inspired dance-heavy style.
But others praised the all-girls K-pop group’s innovative approach, suggesting the music video could be inspired by the Spice Girls.
Some commenting, “Officially obsessed and loving every second of it!” and “Honestly like this version of Blackpink more. It’s different and refreshing.”
For the unversed, the new track marks the award-winning girl group’s comeback after a two-year hiatus during which the members focused on their individual projects.
Notably, Blackpink is currently performing the North American leg of their Deadline World Tour.
