Queen Camilla had a slightly tense moment with King Charles during their historic state visit to Italy — and eagle-eyed royal watchers were quick to catch it.

While the royal couple posed for official photos alongside President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter, Laura Mattarella, at the Quirinale Palace, cameras caught a glimpse of what looked like royal friction.

In a clip now circulating on social media platform X, King Charles is seen standing beside the Italian hosts as he waits for Camilla to join them. As she slowly walks over, one user captioned the moment: “Here King Charles didn’t look particularly amused with Queen Camilla.”

The clip has gone viral, sparking debate over whether Charles looked “annoyed” or just “impatient”.

Despite the awkward encounter, Camilla, 77, dazzled in a blue silk crepe dress and coat by British designer Fiona Clare, finishing her look with a diamond and sapphire brooch once owned by Queen Victoria — a touching nod to royal tradition.

The Rome trip marks King Charles and Queen Camilla’s first international state visit since his cancer diagnosis.

What is King Charles and Queen Camilla's relationship timeline?

The couple first met in the early 1970s and began dating, but royal expectations and timing led Camilla to marry Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973, while Charles wed Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.

Despite their separate marriages, the pair maintained a close bond, with their affair becoming public in the early 1990s and fuelling widespread controversy.

Following their respective divorces—and Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997—they made their first public appearance together in 1999 and married in a civil ceremony in 2005, after years of careful image management.
