Wendy Williams is getting help from a high-profile lawyer in her ongoing battle to win back her freedom.
The former host of The Wendy Williams Show aims to fight the court-ordered guardianship amid health concerns.
Wendy’s health has been a topic of debate for the better part of the last ten years after she fainted during a live broadcast of her show in 2017.
The 60-year-old later revealed that she has been diagnosed with lymphedema, which causes swelling in her ankles.
Wendy’s cognitive health was also questioned in 2022 with the New York Supreme Court appointing Sabrina Morrissey as her temporary financial guardian.
Since then, Wendy has been publicly striving to end her guardianship, urging her fans to donate to her GoFundMe to aid her legal expenses.
The efforts have seemingly come to fruition as Wendy has now hired Joe Tacopina, a high-profile attorney who recently represented rapper A$AP Rocky in a gun assault trial.
Tacopina revealed that he is striving for Wendy’s release from an assisted living facility where she is currently living.
“She’s in a ward where people don’t know their names, where people don’t know between a red light and a green light,” Tacopina told TMZ. “I mean, she’s in a place where people are a danger to themselves. She’s not. She can’t leave there on her own to go get a cup of coffee.”
The attorney also pointed out that he has not officially entered the case as “The judge has to approve any lawyer coming into the guardianship.”
Tacopina concluded by refuting claims that Wendy has Frontotemporal dementia and also stated that she has overcome alcoholism.
