British heartthrob Orlando Bloom wishes to reunite the original Pirates of the Caribbean cast for the sixth instalment, which has been in development for years.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Bloom spoke at Fan Expo Chicago, calling for the return of Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow, Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann, and his own character, Will Turner.

“Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there’s definitely, I’m sure there’s a way to create something,” Bloom said. “I would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back — if they can, and if everybody wanted to return.”

The trio first appeared in 2003’s The Curse of the Black Pearl and went on to lead a trilogy that included 2006’s Dead Man’s Chest and 2007’s At World’s End.

Depp reprised his role as Sparrow in 2011’s On Stranger Tides and 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, where Bloom and Knightley returned briefly in the post-credits scene.

“My thing is, if the script was great and, ideally it was everybody, it’d be kind of like in for a penny, in for a pound, you know,” Bloom continued. “What they’re thinking is how to do it. Do you bring in a female leading character that replicates Jack in some way? I don’t know. The jury is out on how to do it again, but if [the script] was great, [I’d be in].”

The long-delayed sixth film has been in development for years. Back in summer 2020, reports revealed that two Pirates projects were in early stages: a female-led reboot starring Margot Robbie and a proper sixth film continuing the original franchise.
