Hayley Atwell, Rupert Everett unites for ‘Rivals’ S2 on Disney+

Hayley Atwell and Rupert Everett are set to join the period comedy-drama series Rivals for Disney+, stepping into the roles of legendary Jilly Cooper characters.

On Wednesday, Aug. 20, Disney+ announced that the two British actors will appear in season two, adapted from Cooper’s timeless 1998 novel, as guest stars.

Happy Prince (part of ITV Studios) is currently in principal photography for the drama in the U.K.

The Mission: Impossible star will take on the role of Helen Gordon, Rupert Campbell-Black’s ex-wife and mother of his two children, Marcus and Tabitha.

Meanwhile, the Marvel alum will portray Malise Gordon, Atwell’s on-screen husband and Campbell-Black’s former show-jumping coach and mentor.

Additional cast members revealed for Rivals include Maxim Ays (Boarders), Holly Cattle (Young Sherlock), Oliver Dench (Hotel Portofino), Amanda Lawrence (Malory Towers), Bobby Lockwood (Wolfblood), Eliot Salt (Slow Horses) and Jonny Weldon (One Day, Brassic).

They will join returning season one stars such as David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Bella Maclean, Aidan Turner, Emily Atack, Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson, Nafessa Williams and Victoria Smurfit, among others.

Set against the lush backdrop of the Cotswolds and the glamorous, cutthroat world of 1980s British television, the second instalment continues the saga that captivated fans and critics last year.
