Project Hail Mary is already disappointing fans after the teaser for the highly anticipated film starring Barbie’s Ken, Ryan Gosling, made rounds.

The adaptation got a head-start at CinemaCon on April 2, causing raised eyebrows from netizens who turned to social media to voice their grievances.

For starters, the trailer played out to a familiar tune of Harry Styles’ Sign of the Times, which was not well-received by a fan, who reacted saying, “They better not screw it up! And there better not be any Harry Styles music in the movie. It needs an epic orchestral score.”

Another bluntly noted, “Is this April Fools? What they're describing misses pretty much everything interesting about the story lol.”

A third commented under a post describing the trailer, “If true, this leaves me little hope this film will be any good….”

The space adventure takes after its namesake sci-fi book which was written by Andy Weir and follows a school-teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace, who struggles to retrieve his memories after waking up from a coma.

Ryland slowly remembers that he was launched into outer-space so that he may find a way to reverse a solar-dimming event that threatens the existence of human life.

“The astronauts die in space? Who is gonna sign up for that? I put the ‘not’ in astronaut; I’ve never done a space walk, I can’t even moonwalk,” Ryan, who plays Ryland joked after Amazon MGM Studios had presented the film.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Project Hail Mary is set to release in March of 2026.
