Mindy Kaling addressed the controversy that erupted when Meghan Markle subtly corrected her mid-conversation
American actor Mindy Kaling is setting the record straight after Meghan Markle faced intense backlash for correcting her name during their conversation on Netflix’s Live to Lead.
The Mindy Project star, who was a guest star in the Duchess of Sussex’s her Netflix series, With Love Meghan, addressed the controversy that erupted when Meghan subtly corrected her mid-conversation. While critics slammed the former royal for being "patronizing," Kaling isn’t having any of it.
“You know, I had a great time. I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan it becomes. . . big news,” she shared in a video obtained by the Daily Mail.
She then commented on the numerous TikTok videos that erupted of people dissecting the moment the duchess corrected her for not using her new last name, Sussex.
“We were making sandwiches and then they’ll push in on my face on TikTok and they’ll be like, ‘Look at this emotion you felt,’ and I honestly didn’t even remember it because we shot it like nine months ago,” said the Never Have I Ever co-creator.
“I loved my time with Meghan. I’m also like, let her promote her show… it was great and really fascinating seeing the reaction”, she added.
For the unversed, during one of the episodes on Meghan’s show, the two pals were discussing their childhoods. Meghan reminisced about growing up with fast food, TV dinners, and microwavable kids’ meals, saying she spent time “watching Jeopardy! and having a lot of fast food—Taco Bell, Jack in the Box.”
In response, Mindy quipped: “People wouldn’t believe that Meghan ate at Jack in the Box.”
Meghan quickly corrected her, saying, “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now.”
Is Meghan Markle trying to return to Hollywood?
PR analysts believe Meghan is repositioning herself in entertainment, with the Oscars being a prime opportunity. With her new lifestyle show with Netflix premiering within days, this could be the start to Meghan rebranding herself in her post-royal career.
