Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has been the talk of the town since its debut on Tuesday, but not all the chatter has been positive.
While the Duchess of Sussex received mixed reviews for her lifestyle and cooking show, one common criticism stands out—her struggle to attract A-list guests.
According to a source cited by The Sun, Meghan could have had bigger celebrity names appear on the show, but there was a reason why they didn’t.
“They struggled to book guests. They had a real hard time, and it shows,” an insider revealed.
The absence of high-profile names isn’t the only critique the show has faced. Media personalities and critics haven’t held back in their assessments.
Jane Moore, columnist for The Sun and panelist on ITV’s Loose Women, gave a scathing review, writing:
“It’s beautifully lit, and the expert camerawork makes everything look like an M&S food ad on steroids, but never has the phrase ‘style over substance’ been so apt.”
She added, “There’s nothing here that we haven’t seen a million times before… and done better by true experts.”
Meanwhile, The Times columnist Carol Midgley also didn’t mince words.
“If you thought With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex’s new lifestyle show, would be a smug, syrupy endurance watch, and that you would rather fry your eyeballs than sit through it, I have news for you,” she wrote.
“It is so much worse than that.”
With criticism mounting over its lack of originality and failure to secure A-list talent, With Love, Meghan appears to be facing an uphill battle in winning over audiences and proving itself as a worthy addition to Netflix’s lifestyle programming.
As per Netflix, Meghan’s new show will see her “reimagine the genre of lifestyle programming” as she along with her celebrity friends roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.
The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
