Jo Koy broke his silence during the ongoing backlash over his joke on Taylor Swift he made at the Golden Globes 2024.

According to Page Six, he expressed his regret on Monday’s episode of GMA3: What You Need to Know following the question where he was asked from which moment the evening "went off the cliff."

The 52-year-old comedian replied, "I think the Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat… It was a weird joke, I guess."

He went on to explain his joke and clarified that the jest was "more on the NFL" than the Cruel Summer chart-topper.

"I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way," Koy insisted.

He also shared that he was not in his best spirits in the evening and didn’t give his all.

The Chelsea Lately alum told the hosts, "I wanted to give a little bit more of me, and I fell a little short. That’s all."

For the unversed, on Sunday, Koy kicked off the Golden Globes award ceremony with his monologue, but encountered a not-so-good response after he jokingly took a jab at the NFL for showing the Blankspace crooner more often on the screen during her boyfriend’s games.

He began his monologue, "As you know we came on after a football doubleheader" and continued, "The big difference between golden globes and the NFL?"

"On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear…" he added.

The Golden Globe broadcast then cut to a shot of the Midnight songstress glaring at Koy while taking a sip of champagne.

One Swiftie wrote, "3-second camera shots of Taylor at the Chiefs games last longer than Jo Koy ever will."

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan chimed in and wrote humorously, "If Taylor Swift death stares could actually kill, Jo Koy would now be deceased."
