Julian Sands met his unfortunate fate as he followed his passion for hiking into the California mountains back in January.
The 65-year-old actor was confirmed dead after his remains were discovered in Mount Baldy by a group of hikers, seven months into the search for the missing star.
Bill Dwyer, one of the hikers who stumbled upon Sands’ remains, told The Los Angeles Times that the discovery was “surreal.”
According to the outlet, Dwyer detailed the findings, revealing the hiking group first came across the late actor’s boot at two different places, followed by trekking poles and bones.
They also found a “pile of dark winter clothes” nearby, one of which of its pockets contained Sands’ driver’s license inside a wallet.
“He was dressed like a ninja,” revealed a hiker to the outlet.
The hikers submitted the remains to the search and rescue team hired for the discovery of the late actor, who later confirmed the identity as Sands.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in a statement at the time: "On Saturday, June 24, 2023, at about 10 a.m., civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff's Station after they discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness,” adding they "positively identified [the remains] as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood.”
The coroner’s report deemed his death “undetermined,” owing to the “condition of the body and this is common when dealing with cases of this type."
