Colin McFarlane has opened up about his gruesome diagnosis of prostate cancer.

The Doctor Who star updated fans on his condition via The Mirror, revealing that he was "already aware of the risk" since his brother was already diagnosed with the same disease.

"I was already aware of the risk to me, so had been having annual and then six-monthly regular PSA blood tests with my GP," he said.

"Thankfully, just over a year ago, I had told my brother to get a PSA blood test otherwise he wouldn’t have been diagnosed, because he had no symptoms," the Dark Knight actor continued.

He explained that every one in four Black men is prone to getting the condition, with a mortality rate of 12,000 men a year.

Fortunately, the prognosis of McFarlane’s condition is quite hopeful as he caught the cancer early, and will only require regular checkups with his doctors.

"As it’s a very slow-moving cancer I am in the best possible position to ascertain what treatment I would need in the future if that were ever deemed necessary, and currently that scenario is a long way off," he said.

"It’s men who take no action and don’t know anything about their prostate health that are at greatest risk," he added.
