This year certainly wasn’t a bed of roses for many Hollywood couples. As they touched new highs in their professional life, it came at the expense of heartbreaks in their personal lives. It’s only the third month of the year 2023 so far, yet we already have a rather extensive list of celebrities who called it quits.

You can find below the list of celebrity breakup 2023, which include the end of decade-long marriages, year-long engagements, years-long relationship as well as a few flings.

1. Drake Bell and Janet Von Schmeling:

The year kicked off with rather unpleasant news. On Jan. 2, the Drake and Josh alum confirmed his split from his wife Janet after almost a decade together.

The reason behind the celebrity split is unclear, however, Bell had previously been charged with child endangerment after the actor was spotted inhaling drugs in his car while their young son was in the backseat.

Although the breakup was announced this year, a source confirmed that the actress had left the former Nickelodeon star "a few months ago."

Drake and Janet dated for five years before getting married in 2018.

2. Ashley Darby and Luke Gulbranson:

The reality TV stars’ romance had only begun before it ended.

Darby announced her split from Gulbranson during the Jan. 8 episode of Watch What Happens Live, only after two and a half months of dating.

The Real Housewives of Potomac star, who is currently going through a divorce from ex-husband Michael Darby, cited her “complicated” life as the reason for split.

Apparently, it was a little hard on the Summer House star to co-parent Darby’s sons Dean, 3, and Dylan, 21 months, whom she shares with Michael.

3. Noel Gallagher and Sara MacDonald:

With an estranged brother and a fresh divorce, things are certainly not going well for Noel Gallagher.

The pair announced that they are ending their 12-year marriage in a statement to People. They had been together for 12 years before that.

"Noel and Sara will together continue to look after their children who remain their priority," a rep for the Oasis alum and MacDonald said.

The divorced couple shares sons Donovan, 15, and Sonny, 12.

4. Shannon Beador and John Janssen:

Among the biggest celebrity breakups announced this year, Beador could definitely take the cake as the saddest one.

Speaking to People, the 58-year-old reality TV star revealed that her boyfriend of three and a half years, John Janssen, abruptly pulled the plug on their relationship back in November.

"We were in a great place," she wailed. "But seven days later, when the cameras were down, it was a completely different story. He told me he was done with the relationship. And to hear what he said to me then was absolutely devastating."

The story saw a different angle when Janssen claimed that he didn’t think the couple was right for each other.

"It's sad because I love Shannon very much. I have loved her more deeply than any woman in my life," he told the media outlet.

"But that doesn't mean we're right for each other for the rest of our lives," the insurance company president added.

5. Julia Banderas and Andrew Sansone:

Julia Banderas grabbed the bull by its horn when she announced her divorce live on TV last month.

The Fox News’ anchor appeared on a talk show where she was asked about her Valentine’s Day plans. "[expletive] Valentine's Day," she rebuked. "It's stupid. I mean, even when I was married, I didn't get [expletive]."

She went on to reveal: "I'm getting a divorce. I am going to go ahead and say it right here for the very first time."

Banderas shares three children with the financial advisor.

6. Camila Cabello and Austin Kevitch:

Camila Cabello opted for a low-key romance following her shocking split from Shawn Mendes.

The Havana singer began dating Lox Club CEO Austin Kevitch back in June but the pair only lasted for so long before Kevitch announced via a newsletter to his subscriber in February that he is "single again".

7. Maisie Williams and Reuben Selby:

Cersei Lannister was right when she asserted that love is poison.

Maisie Williams, renowned for her role in Game of Thrones, announced the end of her five-year relationship with Reuben Selby last month.

"@reubenselby_ and I decided to end our relationship," she wrote on her Instagram story alongside a photo of the couple.

"Since we met 5 years ago, our connection always extended deeply into our shared, and separate, creative careers... and it will continue to do so."

"This decision is something we are so grateful for so as we can protect the magic, that we can't help but emit, whenever we put out brains together," she added.

Maisie Williams and Reuben Selby first made their romance public in 2019.

8. Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun:

This has to be one of the celebrity breakups that no one saw coming – not even Mod Sun himself.

Avril Lavigne abruptly ended her one-year engagement to Mod Sun during one fine day in February.

The reason behind Lavigne’s decision is unclear, however, one day prior to the announcement, the singer was spotted cozying up to Tyga at a restaurant in Los Angeles.

Reacting to break up, Mod Sun expressed his shock at the news and asserted that the couple was together and engaged as of "three days ago".

9. Falynn Pina and Jaylan Banks:

With a string of announcements of celebrity splits one after another, February set a rite of passage for an apparent ill-fated 2023.

Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Falynn Pina called it quits with fiancé Jaylan Banks after almost two years of being engaged.

The former couple took to their respective Instagram profiles to announce the news. "It is with deep sadness in our hearts that we have decided to end our journey as a couple," the wrote.

"Though we love each other very much, we feel it is best to part ways. Our bond as family and friends will never be broken. We ask for privacy at this time," they added.

10. Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix:

The reality television stars brewed the picture-perfect drama for the public as Ariana Madix dumped Tom Sandoval after nine years of relationships over claims of infidelity.

It was reported on Mar. 3 that Sandoval was cheating on Madix with their Vanderpump Rules co-star Raquel Leviss.

However, sources told TMZ that the separated pair had already "been on the outs for a while now".

11.  Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn:

The unexpected breakup of Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn left the world reeling in shock at the time when fans were speculating that they had secretly gotten married - or at least were engaged.

The low-key couple had been going strong for six years before it was revealed in April that they had parted ways.

Sources claimed that the breakup was rather amicable and wasn’t a product of something unpleasant.

"The relationship had just run its course. It's why [Alwyn] hasn't been spotted at any shows," they said at the time.

Since then, the Lover singer has reportedly moved on to another Brit – the 1975 frontman Matty Healy. 

12. Corinne Olympios and Jerry Morris:

Corrine Olympios and Jerry Morris’ short romance only lasted for six months before it was revealed that the pair had parted ways over “trust issues.”

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, a source revealed: "Corinne Olympios and Jerry Morris have broken up due to their busy careers and trust issues. The breakup happened rather suddenly and friends of the couple were surprised to hear the news.”

13. DeAnna Pappas Stagliano and Stephen Stagliano:

The married couple of over ten years announced their split earlier this year via a statement on Instagram.

"It is with immense sadness, Stephen & I have decided to end our relationship as a couple. We have been working hard for a long time — both as a married couple & as individuals — & have come to the conclusion to remain separate," Pappas Stagliano wrote. "We remain loving parents to our beautiful children, Addison & Austin, & will continue to raise them together with love & faith."

The Bachelorette alum and her husband share two children: Addison, 8, and Austin, 6.

14. Maddie Ziegler and Eddie Benjamin:

In February, it was confirmed that Ziegler and Benjamin are no longer dating after being together for three years.

The former couple reportedly started dating in 2019, though didn’t go public with their romance until a year later.

15. Drew Sidora and Ralph Pittman:

Ralph Pittman shared a heartbreaking statement to People to announce the dissolution of his marriage with Drew Sidora after nine years.

"Love is a beautiful thing," he shared with the outlet.

"Unfortunately we have made the difficult decision to move on to our next chapters, independent of each other. Drew and I have decided to file for divorce. We have three amazing young children, and their mindset and growth is what is most important. As we navigate this difficult time, I ask that you please respect our privacy."

16. Kellyanne Conway and George Conway:

The Conways announced that they were getting a divorce back in March.

"We are in the final stages of an amicable divorce," the former couple wrote in a statement. "We married more than two decades ago, cherish the many happy years (and four corgis) we've shared, and above all else, our four incredible children, who remain the heartbeat of our family and our top priority."

They urged the public to respect their privacy and extended their appreciation to “the many family members, friends, and colleagues who know us, care for us, and support us.”

17. Amy Slaton and Michael Halterman:

Michael Halterman filed for divorce from his 1000-Lb Sisters star wife in March after four years of marriage.

The couple are parents together to two children, sons Gage, 2, and Glenn, 8 months.

18. Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth:

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth announced their “difficult decision” to divorce in March, only days shy of their 12-year wedding anniversary.

Taking to Instagram, they wrote in a joint statement: "We have some personal news to share... It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce.”

"We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together."

19. Joanna Krupa and Douglas Nunes:

After five years of marriage and a daughter together, Douglas Nunes filed for divorce from Joanna Krupa over “irreconcilable differences” in January.

20. Eva Marcille and Michael Sterling:

Eva Marcilla announced her “hardest” decision to divorce husband Michael Sterling in a statement to People in March, stating that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

They tied the knot in October 2018 and share three children.

21. Brie Larson and Elijah Allan-Blitz:

The Marvel star announced her split from her boyfriend of four years at the beginning of this year in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

"I don't have a next job. I don't have a home. I don't have a partner. I don't have a plan. I'm just completely open," Larson told the outlet.

22. Elle Fanning and Max Minghella:

Elle Fanning confirmed her split from boyfriend Max Minghella in a sit-down with Harpaar’s Bazaar and expressed her hope for future romance.

"But I'm a hopeless romantic. I believe in love at first sight. Call me crazy, but I believe in those things. I feel that it's my destiny," the Great actress gushed, adding that she hopes to have kids one day.

23. Dan Reynolds and Aja Volkman:

Aja Volkman officially filed for divorce from Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds in April, months after announcing their separation.

24. Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko:

The Charmed alum filed for divorce from husband Kurt Iswarienko in April after 11 years of marriage.

"Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted," Doherty's rep, Leslie Sloane, told PEOPLE in a statement. "Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option."

25. Alex Pettyfer and Toni Garrn:

Model Toni Garrn took to her Instagram story last month to announce her separation from actor Alex Pettyfer after two years of marriage.

"Alex and I have made the very difficult decision to divorce," Garrn began her statement.

"We will continue our relationship as friends and co-parents to our angel Luca," she continued, referring to the pair's daughter, 2.

"Please respect our privacy during this sensitive time," Garrn concluded. "Thank you."

26. Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner:

Baumgartner filed for divorce from the Yellowstone star earlier this month after 18 years of marriage.

A spokesperson for Costner told People, "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action."

"We ask that his, Christine's, and their children's privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time," the rep added.

27. Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann:

Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann called it quits on their marriage of 12 years, describing it as "irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation."

In the court documents obtained by TMZ, Zolciak demanded primary custody of their children.

28. Serene Russell and Brandon Jones:

Serene Russell and Brandon Jones are one of the latest couples to call it off this year.

"After many months, today we have ultimately decided to end our engagement," Russell and Jones wrote in a joint Instagram post.

"We have tried to work privately on our relationship which has been incredibly challenging in the public eye," they continued. "This has been immensely hard to accept and painful, as there is a lot of love between the two of us."

The pair concluded, "We are deeply hurting and can only ask that there be no hate. The best path for us at this time is to try and move forward and heal from this as individuals."

29. Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford:

The unconventional couple called it quits in May after less than a year of dating.

A spokesperson for the Bad Guy singer confirmed the split to People, and said, “They remain good friends. All cheating rumors are false. Both are currently single.”

30. Tyga and Avril Lavigne: 

Avril Lavigne and Tyga pulled the plug on their relationship only after four months of dating.

A source told TMZ that the pair’s romance simply “fizzled out” after being away from each other in the wake of Lavigne’s current tour that just ended and Tyga has been busy making music.

"We're told it was a mutual decision, and that there are no hard feelings - the romance just ran its course," the publication reported.

The former couple were first romantically linked in February after they were spotted cozying up to each other at a celeb hot spot in LA.

At the time, Lavigne was still engaged to ex-fiance Mod Sun.

However, she called off the engagement only days later and debuted her romance with Kylie Jenner’s ex during Paris Fashion Week. 

31. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello: 

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's romance couldn’t last a second try.

The pair, who got together around Coachella in April, have once again called it quits on their “fling” after realizing it was “probably a mistake to give things another shot.”

“Things ended between them the first time for a reason, after all,” a source claimed to The Sun.

The Senorita pop stars first got together in the summer of 2019 before ending their relationship for the first time in 2021. 

32. Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott:

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott announced their divorce last week after 17 years of marriage.

Taking to Instagram, the Due South alum wrote, “It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways, and start a new journey of our own.”

“We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time,” he added. “We ask that you all respect our privacy as we take this time to surround our family with love and work our way through this.

“Thank you all for your support and kindness.”

McDermott and Spelling are parents to son Liam, 16, Finn, 10, and Beau, 6, and daughters Stella, 15, and Hattie, 11 together.

33. Kevin McKidd and Arielle Goldrath:

Kevin McKidd is officially a single man.

The Grey’s Anatomy star has finalized his divorce from ex-wife Arielle Goldrath after four years of marriage.

McKidd first announced his separation from the professional chef back in July. “I don’t often share my personal life on social media, but today there is something I do want to share with you,” he wrote at the time.

“A few months ago, Arielle and I decided to end the marriage portion of our relationship. We reached this conclusion after much soul-searching and discussion. We know it’s what is right for both of us.”

McKidd and Goldrath tied the knot in 2018 and are parents to son Aiden, 5, and daughter Nava, 3.
