Peter Straub who passed away at the age of 79 and was most known for his well-liked horror and supernatural fiction, including two books he co-wrote with Stephen King.
His daughter, best-selling popular fiction author Emma Straub, announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday.
"Peter Francis Straub, the smartest and most fun person in every room he was ever in, 3/2/43 - 9/4/22. How lucky we were. There aren’t enough words in the world," Emma Straub captioned the post.
Born in Milwaukee, Straub has been a lifetime reader and writer.
His creepy 1979 book "Ghost Story," which was made into a 1981 movie starring Fred Astaire and Alice Krige, was his first big hit.
Numerous books on the paranormal and horror came after, including his most well-known work, "The Talisman," about a kid who visits a parallel realm in order to save his mother, and its 2001 sequel, "Black House," both of which were co-written with horror icon King.
