Olivia Newton-John, ‘Grease’ actress dies aged 73

Olivia Newton-John loved as Sandy in ‘Grease’ is no more.

Olivia Newton-John, a Grammy Award-winning singer and actress best remembered for playing Sandy in "Grease," a goody-two-shoes character, has passed away at age 73 after a battle with breast cancer.

Newton-John "passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends", according to a statement made by her husband, John Easterling, on her verified Facebook page.

"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer," Easterling wrote.

He continued, "Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continue with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer."

Newton-John, a pop singer who became an icon after landing the lead in the smash musical film, was a fervent supporter of cancer awareness.
