Musician Shania Twain opened up about her journey of heartbreak and healing after her divorce from her husband Robert “Mutt” Lange.

On Tuesday, July 26, Twain’s new documentary Not Just A Girl was released on Netflix, in which the singer gave an insight into her private life.

After being diagnosed with Lyme disease which largely affected her singing abilities, Shania also faced divorce from her ex-husband Robert Lange.

It was revealed in the documentary that her husband was allegedly cheating on her with Shania’s friend which led her to go down a spiral of hopelessness.

"My husband leaves me for another woman. Now I'm at a whole other low and I don't see any point in going on with a music career," Twain said.

She also compared the grief of losing her then-husband to infidelity to that of losing her parents as it felt “like a death.” She believed she would never get over this as for her, it was the “permanent end to so many facets” of her life.

The You’re Still the One songstress revealed it was the power of music that helped her carry on after the split.

The singer began taking "baby steps" and writing songs again. And while she was "petrified" to get back in the studio without her husband and longtime producer, Shania had a lot of motivation.

What came next was the fifth studio album from Shania called Now. It was her first album to reach No. 1 in all major territories.

"It was a great experience," she shared. "Now is my favorite recorded work that I've done so far that I enjoy listening to still."
