Peacock Queer as Folk won't be having a reboot as it was cancelled by the streamer after the first season.
According to Variety, the show received a straight-to-series order at Peacock in April 2021, subsequently its first season was released on July 9.
The series was created by Stephen Dunn, who also executive produced it along with Jaclyn Moore, Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, original series creator Russell T. Davies, Nicola Shindler, and Richard Halliwell for NENT Studios UK.
On September 23, Stephen Dunn posted his statement on Instagram in which he said, "It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as ‘Queer As Folk.'"
He continued, "This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season."
Dunn showed gratitude to fans for "falling in love” with the characters and concluded, "We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show."
Queer as Folk starred Fin Argus, CG, Jesse James Keitel, Ryan O’Connell, Johnny Sibilly, Devin Way, and Kim Cattrall. The show was about a group of teenagers in New Orleans who have to grapple with the aftermath of a shooting at a queer nightclub.
The show was the third iteration of Queer as Folk. The original British series ran between 1999 and 2000, and the American version aired for five seasons between 2000 and 2005.
Queer as Folk is the second Peacock cancellation in the month of September. At the beginning of September, Peacock cancelled the single-camera comedy Rutherford Falls after airing it for two seasons.
