David Harbour’s shocking truth about his health battle revealed

David Harbour has opened up about his long-running mental health battle.

The 51-year-old superstar admitted that he once believed his struggles were caused by money worries and the uncertainty of life as an actor.

The Stranger Things star revealed he questioned whether his mental health problems were linked to financial pressure, but realised that his issues remained even after becoming successful and earning more money from the hit Netflix show.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, David explained that while financial stress can deeply affect people’s wellbeing, he believes his own struggles went beyond money.

“I still think I’m mentally ill even though I have more money,” he admitted, reflecting on how poverty and instability can create huge emotional pressure.

The Hellboy actor also discussed the challenges of choosing a creative career, saying the unpredictable nature of the industry can take a toll on mental health. 

He noted that many artists willingly enter difficult emotional spaces as part of their work.

David also looked back on the moment his life changed after Stranger Things became a global phenomenon in 2016. 

Before the show’s success, only a handful of fans would wait for him outside theatres after his stage performances.

But everything changed when he suddenly found crowds gathering to meet him.

He recalled being shocked when around 20 people appeared at the stage door one night, followed by around 50 the next. 

The fans told him they had come because they recognised him from Stranger Things, not because they had watched his play.

The unexpected rise to fame left him stunned, admitting he is “still digesting” the huge change that came with becoming an internationally recognised star.
