Aaron Lewis believes his political views have come at a professional cost.

Speaking on the Pickin' It Out with Andrew Pope podcast the Staind frontman and country singer claimed the music industry has distanced itself from him because of his outspoken beliefs.

"Everything's too political now," Lewis said. "I've played the Grand Ole Opry a whole bunch of times, and I don't get invited to the Opry anymore. All because I believe in this beautiful, amazing country that we're so blessed to have."

Reflecting on his decades in music the 54-year-old said he feels fortunate to still be performing nearly 30 years after forming the band.

"We're now eligible for the Hall of Fame," he said before adding, "It'll never happen."

Lewis also claimed it has become increasingly difficult for fans to discover his music because he no longer receives support from the industry.

"You've got to look for it. Any of my stuff," he said. "The machine that is has no problem turning its back on me."

His sixth solo studio album Give My Country Back is scheduled for release on July 17.

Lewis' comments come as other artists have also spoken about the intersection of music and politics.

Earlier this year Vanilla Ice defended his decision to perform at President Donald Trump's Freedom 250 celebrations saying entertainers should not be dragged into political debates and that music should bring people together.

Despite the criticism he says he has faced Lewis continues to release new music and tour remaining vocal about his political beliefs.
