Daniel Radcliffe has shared that he feels “paternal” towards the young actors set to lead the upcoming HBO Harry Potter TV reboot.
The 36-year-old actor, who originally portrayed Harry Potter in the film series, reflected on seeing Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton take on the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Speaking on In The Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, the British actor stated,
“With all the new Harry Potter stuff, there were definitely some times when I would suddenly see these pictures of these three kids starting their own journey, and it’s very surreal and strange and provokes very paternal feelings in me, even though I do not know these children.”
He went on to add that Emma Watson has expressed similar feelings about the new cast.
“I think we all want to reach into the screens and hug them and make sure they’re OK and hope that they have a great time.” he explained.
Moreover, he said that he avoids online discussion about himself, noting he is often unaware of what is being said about him during interviews.
“Very often I’ll be doing a press line and I’ll have to be like, ‘I literally don’t know what you’re talking about,’ because I am not plugged in.” he mentioned.
Furthermore, he also reflected on fame, saying it should not be the goal, but rather a by product of creative work.
