Kim Petras lifts lid on secret relationships that inspired new album

Kim Petras has opened up about the heartbreak behind her love life.

The 33-year-old singer revealed that despite her global fame, she has “rarely” met men willing to date her openly.

The chart-topping hitmaker, who has become one of pop’s most recognisable stars, admitted that many of her past romances were kept firmly behind closed doors. 

Speaking candidly about her experiences, Kim said most men she encountered preferred relationships to remain on the down-low rather than being seen with her publicly.

The German-born star, who transitioned at a young age and later made headlines as one of the youngest people to undergo gender-affirming surgery, explained that those experiences inspired parts of her new music.

The Unholy singer pointed to her track 101, saying the song reflects both her past struggles and the confidence she has found in herself today. 

The songstress described it as a sweet reminder of how far she has come, both personally and emotionally.

Her upcoming album Detour also explores the complicated world of secret romances, including relationships with athletes. 

Kim said she was fascinated by the tension that can exist when love has to stay hidden, particularly within sporting circles.

Songs including B**** Ball Out and Basketball delve into those themes, with Kim revealing that the idea of dating someone in the public eye while keeping the relationship under wraps became a key thread running through the project.

Away from romance, the pop star also reflected on her ever-changing image and artistic reinventions. 

While fans know her for bold looks and larger-than-life performances, Alone hitmaker insisted she is naturally shy and often uses music to express sides of herself she struggles to show in everyday life.
