Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning film editor behind Star Wars, has breathed her last at the age of 80.
According to TMZ reports, she passed away on May 27 after metastatic cancer at her home in Rancho Mirage, California.
As per People magazine, her family confirmed the news through their attorney and paid tribute, describing her as “a force,” and noting the profound impact of her passing.
In their statement, they also said, “A true trailblazer for women in film and one of the most influential editors in cinematic history; she helped redefine what film editing could be and paved the way for generations of women who followed.”
Lucas began her journey in the film industry working under editor Verna Fields, a connection that later led her to George Lucas.
The pair married in 1969 and became part of the New Hollywood filmmaking wave.
