Steven Soderbergh, who has recently used AI in his work, described the use of it as "fun.
The American filmmaker has worked on famous films like Ocean's Eleven and Black Bag and has now released John Lennon: The Last Interview.
The movie first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2026, and has divided the critics as AI was used in the making.
The intention of the documentary was to honor the late musician, John Lennon and highlight his last radio interview.
It is to be noted that the passed-away songwriter was killed by his obsessed fan named, Mark David Chapman.
Now present at the international film event, Steven revealed how it felt like working on a feature film with the use of artificial intelligence.
He stated to Vanity Fair, "It’s transparently not real. That’s the whole point. That’s why it’s fun."
He added when asked what he would say if an actor came to him and asked him why he gave the role to AI, "It wouldn’t have been as funny. Trying to make it real makes it less funny in this specific context. Look, I think also there’s a desire,"
Notably, the documentary is a 100-minute feature and, as per Steven, it was one of the ways Hollywood can be introduced to technology rather than trying to avoid it.
