Kylie Minogue has opened up in an emotional new Netflix documentary about the deeply personal reason she kept her second cancer diagnosis out of the public eye.

The 57-year-old Australian pop icon reflects on her health battles in the upcoming three-part series Kylie.

She revealed that she felt “removed from my body” when her first breast cancer diagnosis in 2005 made global headlines.

In the documentary, she admits the fear never truly left her.

“I was so scared of what was ahead of me,” she says, recalling the overwhelming moment her life changed overnight.

But it was her second diagnosis in early 2021 that she chose to keep private, a decision she now explains with striking honesty.

“I was able to keep that to myself… Not like the first time,” she says.

“I just couldn’t at the time because I was a shell of a person.”

The Can’t Get You Out of My Head singer, who underwent a lumpectomy and chemotherapy before being declared cancer-free in 2006, says the experience changed her relationship with fame, privacy and music forever.

Kylie reveals she often considered going public during her 2023 comeback with the hit Padam Padam, but never felt ready.

Instead, she channelled her emotions into her album Tension, using music as a quiet form of healing.

“There had to be something that marked that time,” she explains, adding that pop music “nurtures” her and her passion for it is stronger than ever.

She also recalls how, after her first diagnosis, she realised how little others know about private struggles, even in public spaces.

It's worth noting that Kylie streams on Netflix from Wednesday, May 20.
