Maya Hawke has made a brutally honest confession about her music career.
The 27-year-old singer admitted that she “hated” every album she released before finally finding peace with her latest record.
She revealed she reached emotional burnout during the release cycles for her earlier albums, saying the pressure of being constantly online and promoting herself left her drained and disconnected from her own music.
Speaking about her new album Maitreya Corso, the Stranger Things actress admitted things became so overwhelming that by the time her previous records were released, she could barely stand listening to them.
She said: “Every other album cycle I’ve done, by the time I got to the point where the album came out, I hated it.”
Maya explained that social media and the demands of being in the public eye took a serious toll on her mental state, leaving her exhausted and unable to enjoy the creative process.
But this time around, the Hollywood star completely changed her approach.
Working alongside musician partner Christian Lee Hutson, Maya focused on making the rollout feel “enjoyable” instead of stressful and says it’s finally paying off.
She also insisted she has no desire to become a flashy pop superstar.
“I’m not a dancer — I don’t want to be a pop star and do dance moves,” she said, adding that she would rather perform intimate songs she can play herself on guitar.
She also opened up about the emotional impact of finishing hit Netflix series Stranger Things, admitting the end of the show left her feeling “pretty freaked out” and unsure what her life would look like afterwards.
Although she once felt restricted by the show’s demanding schedule, Maya confessed it had also given her stability, and now she’s trying to rebuild her career and personal life on her own terms.
