Chris Martin has helped pull off one of the most unexpected line-ups in global entertainment history.
Reportedly, Madonna, Shakira and BTS confirmed to co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final halftime show.
The 49-year-old Coldplay frontman curated the landmark performance, which will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium, during the halftime break of the tournament final.
The show which is produced by Global Citizen, is being billed as a celebration of music, unity and global culture.
Organisers say the event will also raise funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
It is aimed at improving access to education and football opportunities for children around the world.
But it’s the star power that has truly sent fans into meltdown.
In a playful announcement video, Chris appeared alongside Sesame Street favourites Elmo and Cookie Monster, as well as Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy from The Muppets, as he tried to explain the concept of a halftime show.
What followed quickly turned into a chaotic brainstorming session.
Elmo enthusiastically suggested Madonna, Cookie Monster pushing for BTS, and Animal demanding Shakira be added to the bill.
A Sky Full of Stars hitmaker, keeping the tone light, described the show as a moment where “people come together for music, dancing and togetherness,” while teasing that surprises were still to come.
Within minutes of the announcement, social media lit up with reactions, with fans calling it “the most iconic halftime show ever assembled” and “a cultural crossover no one saw coming.”
