Jon Hamm reminisced about the unsuccessful marriage of Don Draper and Betty saying their marriage was built on a lie.

On April 11, the 55-year-old actor was present at a panel at PaleyFest LA to discuss his new Apple TV series Your Friends and Neighbors.

This made him draw parallels between his current broken marriage and his legendary role in Mad Men.

Hamm said he had a version of this, when he was filming the famous American period drama that started in 2007.

The actor explained, "Where people were like, 'Why can't Don and Betty get back together?'"

He answered, "I was like, 'Because their relationship is f---ing terrible, horribly fractured and broken and it's built on lies.'"

Hamm has starred as the manipulative ad man in seven seasons ended in 2015 with January Jones as Betty.

In Your Friends and Neighbors, Hamm stars as Andrew "Coop" Cooper, a hedge fund manager who finds himself burglarizing after losing his job.

The plot follows him finding out that his wife had an affair and his marriage falls apart.

"The point being that there is a reason that they split and unless you fundamentally resolve the reason, then it's probably not great," he stressed.

"There's work to be done." Earlier, Hamm noted that he actually believed producers of Mad Men would never cast him, thinking that they would give the role to a movie star.

However, Matthew Weiner, who created it, wanted someone who was without superstar status.

Last year, Christina Hendricks told People that she is still being approached day after day with the series.

It is pertinent to mention that the show's exploration of consumerism, gender roles, continues to resonate even after almost two decades.
