Eddie Murphy has recently made history by achieving the biggest milestone in his five-decade acting career.

The comedy legend gets teary-eyed over receiving the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in a star-studded ceremony on April 18.

After his award, Eddie took the stage and got emotional as he told the crowd, “I almost teared up… I’m going to get backstage and cry.”

During his speech, the Nutty Professor actor jokingly said that Mel Brooks and Francis Ford Coppola waited into their 80s, while Lillian Gish received it at 90.

“Sometimes they make you wait until you’re real old,” quipped the 65-year-old.

The ceremony, which will premiere on May 31 on Netflix, also featured impressive lineup of A-list celebrities celebrating Eddie’s legacy.

Martin Lawrence, Dave Chappelle and Kenan Thompson also paid emotional tributes to the Shrek actor.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson also performed songs from Dreamgirls – the musical where she starred alongside Eddie.
