Lee Sung Jin reveals real life moments that inspired 'Beef' S2

Lee Sung Jin has revealed that the second season of the hit Netflix series is deeply rooted in real-life experiences, drawing from three personal and observed incidents to shape its narrative.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the new season, Lee, also known as Sonny, explained that one of the central storylines emerged after he overheard a heated argument between a couple. 

The incident left a lasting impression, particularly because people of different generations interpreted it in contrasting ways, a dynamic that became a key theme in the show.

Another major plot point, involving a tense medical emergency and prolonged hospital wait, was inspired by Lee’s own experience spending nearly 10 hours in an emergency room with his wife. 

According to People, he said the emotional strain of that moment translated directly into the show’s storytelling.

The setting of the season, a high-end country club divided by class and generational differences, was also influenced by Lee’s real-life observations. 

While house-sitting for a friend, he gained access to a private club where he noticed stark contrasts between wealthy members and staff, which informed the show’s exploration of privilege and inequality.
