Tom Cruise is set to grace the silver screens as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell again.

Following the wrap up of 2022s Top Gun: Maverick, the rumour has been swirling around of third part being in works.

Now, in a presentation of the Paramount Pictures studio’s slate at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, studio’s co-head, Josh Greenstein, confirmed that Top Gun 3 is “officially in development with a script underway.”

The sequel is reportedly in works since the last two years, with Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote Maverick, previously said that the storyline for its follow-up film was "already in the bag.”

During the presentation, Greenstein and co-chair Dana Goldberg confirmed that Top Gun 3 will be “reuniting Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer.”

Cruise did not appear on the stage during the presentation, however, to celebrate the confirmation of part three, he appeared in a video shown at Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation.

The footage, directed by Wicked's Jon M. Chu, per The Hollywood Reporter, showed the Oscar winner on top of the iconic water tower on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles.

Shouting out the studio's successes, Cruise quipped from atop the tower, “The future looks pretty great from here.”

Director and release date for Top Gun 3 is yet to be announced.

Along with the sequel, Cruise is set to star in Digger, releasing October 2. He will also reportedly reunite with McQuarrie for a film titled Broadsword.
