James Van Der Beek has passed away at 48, after fighting a years-long battle with bowel cancer leaving behind heartbroken friends and family.
The Dawson’s Creek star’s family announced the news via social media which made fans and fellow actors pay tribute to the beloved industry alum.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time,” the caption with the late actor’s post read.
It further noted that the family wanted privacy to grieve the death of the father-of-six, and their mourning was joined by a number of Hollywood stars and netizens.
James’s One Tree Hill co-actor Chad Michael Murray wrote on social media, “James was a giant. We’re so so so sorry for what you’re going through. His words, art and humanity inspired all of us- he inspired us to be better in all ways. God bless you guys.”
Meanwhile Sarah Michelle Gellar also praised the actor and his legacy, calling the late actor’s death a loss to the world and adding “F*** Cancer,” at the end.
Notably, Reese Witherspoon, Emma Slater and Jaime Ray Newman, called James’s passing devastating while other musicians and directors also paid their condolences.
