Zohran Mamdani has been breaking several traditions that have been going on for a long-time since he assumed the office as New York City’s mayor.
After the 34-year-old joined hands with Cardi B for his 2-K initiative, it was reported by Page Six that the major is now planning to drop from the guest list of Met Gala.
It has been a long-running mayoral tradition to attend one of the biggest pop culture phenomenon.
The online community shared their opinions about him missing out on the event with one X user appreciating Zohran for his decision: “@NYCMayor standing on business.
Another netizen was of the opinion that “its kinda cool to have a mayor who is skipping [Met Gala] to focus on helping the people.”
Meanwhile, few criticised his decision to skip the fundraising event, writing: “It’s charity event he could [have] used to platform minority designers or slow affordable brands but okay.”
In 2022, Eric Adams attended the event with Tracey Collins, his partner after Bill de Blasio.
The democratic politician recently announced the launch of new pied-à-terre tax on luxury second homes in the city.
It was revealed that governor Kathy Hochul is behind the introduction of this new taxing system. This would apply to all the second homes in the place.
