Charlize Theron showed up at the Winter Olympics to deliver a message of peace and harmony, with a mention of the legendary activist Nelson Mandela.
The Monster actress is the peace ambassador for the United Nations and addressed the crowd at San Siro Stadium on Friday, February 6.
In her speech, the 50-year-old stated “Athletes, spectators from every corner of the world, this is a message of peace by my beloved countryman Nelson Mandela. Peace is not just the absence of conflict.”
“Peace is the creation of an environment where all can flourish, regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, class, caste, or any other social markers of difference. Today, this message seems more relevant than ever. So let these Games be more than just sport,” Theron added.
The Academy Award winner went on to say that she wanted the games to be a reminder of our shared humanity, mutual respect and a call for peace.
Theron stood with a dove symbol, after the UN Member States had adopted the Olympic Truce Resolution for the 2026 Games to ensure safe passage for the attendees.
