Apple TV’s high-speed sports drama F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt as veteran Formula One driver Sonny Hayes, has become a cultural and commercial sensation since its June 2025 release, prompting early discussions about a possible sequel.
The original film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Apple Original Films alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, grossed over $630 million globally, making it both Apple’s biggest theatrical hit to date and the highest-grossing auto racing movie of all time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, at Apple TV’s recent press event in Santa Monica, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali addressed media questions on whether a follow-up is imminent.
While no formal announcement has been made, he encouraged fans to “stay tuned,” indicating that further details could be shared once Apple and its partners fully assess the first film’s performance.
Moreover, industry insiders and executives have also hinted that early creative conversations are underway about where the franchise might go next.
Director Joseph Kosinski has been connected with conceptual ideas for extending the story beyond Hayes’s current arc, potentially focusing on new challenges for Apex GP or other characters, although nothing is confirmed.
Despite the enthusiasm, key figures including co-producer Lewis Hamilton have urged patience, noting the importance of allowing the property to “simmer” and not rush a follow-up that could undercut the original’s achievements.
