Tom Cruise has officially taken his action chops to a galaxy far, far away but this time, it wasn’t for Mission: Impossible

The 63-year-old superstar reportedly stepped behind the camera to film a lightsaber duel for Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.

The 57-year-old director spilled the jaw-dropping scoop during an interview with The New York Times, revealing that Cruise had popped onto set just “to watch", but Levy convinced him to jump in and direct an action-packed sequence.

“Now when you see the movie, you’ll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?” Levy said.

The Top Gun star isn’t the only Hollywood legend visiting the set, Steven Spielberg also dropped by, giving Levy a flashback to advice the Jurassic Park director once gave him.

“You direct like you’re sitting in the audience,” something Levy says has stuck with him throughout his career.

Star Wars: Starfighter, slated for 2027, takes place five years after The Rise of Skywalker and follows Ryan Gosling as a pilot tasked with protecting his Force-sensitive nephew (Flynn Gray) from mysterious threats across the galaxy..

Notably, the film also stars Amy Adams, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, and more.

Levy promises that despite the epic scale, the film stays “rooted in character,” a lesson he learned from his work on Stranger Things

With Cruise directing lightsabers and Levy balancing spectacle with heart, fans might be in for a Star Wars adventure like no other.
