Tom Cruise’s upcoming film Digger is shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s most expensive original productions in recent years.

The movie, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, is a black comedy centered on the most powerful man in the world who causes a global disaster and then sets out to prove he can save humanity.

According to Puck’s Matthew Belloni, Warner Bros. has cited the $125 million figure, though industry insiders believe the final cost could be higher.

Belloni described the project as a high-risk endeavor, comparing it to Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming film One Battle After Another, which is believed to have cost between $130 million and $175 million.

Like that film, Digger is an original, prestige-driven project with an unusually large budget for its genre.

The movie features an ensemble cast including Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, and Sandra Hüller, with Cruise reportedly appearing in prosthetics.

It's important to note that Digger marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since The Revenant (2015), which earned widespread acclaim and multiple Academy Awards.

Speaking previously to Deadline, Iñárritu praised Cruise’s performance, calling the film “a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions.”

He added that working with Cruise revealed a previously unseen range, describing the actor’s commitment and passion as exceptional.
