Zooey Deschanel reveals Katie Holmes was the first choice for ‘Elf’
The actress played the role of Jovie in the 2003 Christmas movie
American actress Zooey Deschanel revealed another actress was the first to get offered her role from Elf in 2003.
The actress, who is widely known as Jess from New Girl, said Katie Holmes was the first choice for the 2003 Christmas movie that has now became a holiday classic.
While speaking on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, Zooey opened up about the audition and filmmaking part of the Elf movie after 22 years.
Zooey recalled the audition experience saying “When I met with Jon Favreau, the director, I walked in and he was like, ‘Oh, you don’t need to read. We just offered it to Katie Holmes.’”
“And I was like, ‘Oh, OK, cool.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, sit down and talk for a minute.’ I was like, ‘OK!'” she added.
The Yes Man actress said she was not nervous because she knew the role has already been offered to Katie.
“I wasn’t nervous at all, because I was like, ‘Well, I’m not getting the part.’ It was kind of great cause I was not nervous.” Zooey recalled.
However, Katie later dropped out of the movie due to scheduling conflict which eventually made Zooey star in the cult-classic movie.
