Paul rudd recalls hilarious audition that ‘backfired’

Paul Rudd has established himself as a senior actor who has done a range of roles but there was a time the actor’s “witty” audition strategy backfired.

While Paul is now famously known for starring as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was not always like this.

The actor, who starred in Friends as Phoebe’s husband, recalled taking an out-of-box approach for an audition when he was still struggling to land roles.

The 56-year-old spoke to RTE Entertainment revealing his audition strategy was inspired by Danny DeVito.

“I heard a story that Danny DeVito got the role in Taxi because he went into the room as Louie De Palma, jumped on a table, threw the script down, and said, 'Who wrote this?’”, Paul recalled.

Inspired from Danny’s audition, Paul recalled going to audition for the role of a tough-guy and channeled the bad boy energy thoroughly.

“I took out a cigarette - it wasn't lit - threw it on her carpet and stubbed it out. As I left, I thought, 'I'm not going to get that part!” The actor revealed.

Paul later got a call from his agent who told him that the director’s review of the audition was “Get this psycho away from me!”.

The actor is now promoting his upcoming project Anaconda alongside Jack Black that comes out on December 25.
