What made Steven Spielberg walked away from Ben Affleck?

Steven Spielberg has made a surprising revelation about his fallout with Ben Affleck, leaving fans stunned.

The 79-year-old filmmaker disclosed that he once walked away from a movie project because the Deep Water actor allegedly made his young son cry.

The extraordinary story was revealed by screenwriter and director Mike Binder, who was developing the 2006 film Man About Town with the expectation that Spielberg would direct it under his DreamWorks banner. 

Everything was moving smoothly until Affleck signed on to play the lead role of a powerful Hollywood agent.

According to Binder, the Titanic director immediately shut the idea down. 

The legendary filmmaker reportedly told him he couldn’t work with Good Will Hunting star, citing both box office flops and a very personal incident from years earlier. 

He claimed that while on a family holiday, the 53-year-old actor then dating his goddaughter Gwyneth Paltrow, lost his temper with Spielberg’s young son during a poolside altercation.

The child had allegedly pushed Affleck into a swimming pool while he was fully dressed. 

Spielberg said Affleck reacted angrily, picking the boy up and throwing him back into the water, leaving him in tears. 

That moment, he decided, was enough to put the actor on his permanent blacklist.

Despite the Jurassic Park director’s objections, Binder stood by Jennifer Lopez ex-husband. 

The decision cost him DreamWorks backing, with the studio dropping the project entirely. 

Man About Town eventually landed at Lionsgate instead.

Years later, the drama took a humorous turn when Affleck beat Spielberg at the Oscars in 2013. 

Binder joked that Affleck could now “throw Spielberg’s whole family in the pool and get away with it”, a line that reportedly left the actor in stitches.
