Kate Winslet recently made an unexpected statement about the stardom she acquired from portraying James Cameron’s Titanic.
The 50-year-old became instantly popular and was cast opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Rose and Jack in the 1997 classic.
However, the fame proved pretty scary as Kate detailed the outcomes of fame to be consistently followed by paparazzi at the time.
She went on to state that even her phone was tapped and people used to search through her bins to know “what diet I was on or wasn’t on.”
During an interview, the veteran star marked, "It was horrific. There were people tapping my phone. They were just everywhere. And I was just on my own. I was terrified to go to sleep.”
In an episode on BBC Radios 4’s Island Discs, the actress revealed that after Titanic, she often used to see herself on the covers of magazines and newspapers without consent, by what she explained as “awful and abusive names.”
Kate Winslet further explained how she coped, "You just keep your mouth closed, you put your head down, and you keep walking. And you try and put your hands over your children’s ears. You lean on your friends, you just keep going."
The Oscar winner added, “a good meal, a shared conversation, a nice cup of coffee, a bit of Radiohead and a good poo.”
Recently, Winslet just made her directorial debut with the film Goodbye June, written by his son Joe Anders.
Notably, the 2025 Christmas film was released on December 12.
