King Charles is preparing for a major return to overseas travel following a positive update on his health, with trips to the United States and the Caribbean planned for next year.

The 77-year-old monarch and Queen Camilla, 78, are expected to significantly expand their international schedule in 2026 after a period of reduced travel due to the King’s cancer treatment.

Since being diagnosed in February 2024, the King has limited his foreign engagements, undertaking just two overseas trips this year, to Italy and Canada, as doctors closely monitored his condition and treatment schedule.

However, that is set to change in the New Year. According to reports, the frequency of the King’s treatment is expected to be reduced “significantly,” allowing him to take on a fuller programme of official duties abroad.

The King’s first major overseas visit is expected to take place in April, when he travels to the United States. During the visit, he is due to meet US President Donald Trump, with the trip coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence from British rule.

The visit is expected to carry symbolic weight, marking a rare moment of royal diplomacy during a historic milestone for the United States.

Later in 2026, the King is also scheduled to travel to Antigua and Barbuda in November to attend the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), reaffirming his commitment to the Commonwealth despite recent health challenges.

The travel plans follow what the King described as “good news” regarding his cancer treatment. In a five-minute video message broadcast as part of the Stand Up to Cancer campaign, Charles spoke candidly about his diagnosis, describing the experience as “overwhelming.”

He revealed that advances in cancer treatment have enabled him to continue living a “full and active life” while undergoing care.
