Queen Camilla has received praise from a renowned author for slamming stereotypes.
The queen is well known for her love for reading and promoting book reading habits among younger generations.
In 2023, the king’s wife introduced the Queen's Reading Room initiative.
The project was launched with the aim to “celebrate and promote the power and benefits of reading, in the UK and beyond.”
The venture aims to promote reading which will “improve brain health, mental health and social connection”.
British author Ann Cleeves praised the queen’s initiative.
While speaking to the Mirror, Ann said “[The queen] obviously loves books - and what I admire the most is that she doesn't necessarily pick classics or literary fiction.”
Ann praised Camilla for ending “snobbishness” surrounding reading.
It is a common phenomenon when casual readers or certain genres of literature are looked down upon and sidelined away from traditional reading.
“Popular genre authors that literary reviewers may have been a bit sniffy about, she has been doing away with that kind of snobbery, which is wonderful,” Ann added.
The phenomenon also dictates a divide between classes and prefers old classics and authors over contemporary writers.
