Stanley Baxter renowned as one of the most prominent comedy names in British television has died at the age of 99.

His friend and biographer Brian Beacom confirmed that the actor breathed his last on December 11 at Denville Hall.

He spent his last days at the care home for entertainers situated in north London where he had been living for a year now.

Baxter was born in Glasgow and rose to fame with shows like The Stanley Baxter Show on the BBC and The Stanley Baxter Picture Show on ITV.

For decades he was known for his sharp wit and his ability to work with satire setting the bar high where no one could match his brilliance.

This unfortunate incident took place just before BBC Scotland had scheduled a New Year’s Eve special focused on his life.

The upcoming special consists of rare archive clips and inside discussions with people who worked with him or admired him from afar.

Bill Paterson, Amanda Barrie, Lord Grade, Mark Gatiss and Alan Cumming are among the few who will reflect on his legendary time in the industry.

Baxter received several major awards including three BAFTAs. The comedian scored his first in 1960 and continued to earn recognition for his performances over the years.

He previously received the BAFTA Scotland Award in 2020 for Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television.
