A royal expert claims Queen Elizabeth II once had a blistering phone call with Prince Harry, and it was all sparked by Meghan Markle’s spending habits.
According to royal author Robert Jobson, the late Queen herself grew frustrated with her grandson’s repeated requests for money.
Appearing on the Daily T podcast, Jobson claimed the drama came to a head one afternoon when Harry phoned the Queen around 5 p.m., right in the middle of her daily tea ritual.
Host Camilla Tominey recalled: “She (the late Queen) took a call from Harry and then reportedly remarked, ‘more money,’ rolling her eyes.”
Jobson confirmed the story, replying: “Yeah, I think that she got fed up.”
He explained that the Palace had already “spent a lot of money” supporting the Sussexes, adding: “[Harry] was then saying ‘oh I never got any [money] – he did. He got many thousands of pounds. More than we can probably know. To the point where the King said, ‘I’m not a bank anymore’, so that’s quite telling.”
But it wasn’t just Harry’s financial requests that left the Queen unimpressed but it was reportedly Meghan’s wardrobe budget, too.
Tominey pointed out that “the [late] Queen thought Meghan was spending too much on clothes”, a claim Jobson backed up: “She did. But some people might criticise that as in the 1940s and 1950s, when she was being dressed for these tours, there was a lot of money being spent on royal tours.”
Still, Tominey questioned whether those earlier expenses compared to Meghan’s more extravagant choices, asking: “But maybe not £60,000 on one Dior gown she wore during the 2019 Morocco tour?”
Jobson didn’t hold back: “That was seen as over the top... not sending the right message. The Queen, at the end, was always about the right message. Throughout her life, she got it exactly right.”
According to reports at the time, Meghan’s wardrobe for the three-day Morocco tour totalled a staggering £110,000, and insiders now claim it left the Queen deeply concerned about the optics.
