American comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco has shared his reaction to Marcello Hernandez’s spot-on impression of him on Saturday Night Live, calling the parody both impressive and flattering.
The 52-year-old comic revealed that Hernandez even invited him to appear in the sketch. However, a prior commitment kept him from joining the bit.
“He actually called me on Thursday before the show and said, ‘Do you want to come in and do a cameo at the end of it?’ I couldn’t do it because I was performing in Palm Springs,” he explained.
Despite missing the cameo opportunity, Maniscalco praised the SNL star’s performance in a preview clip from his upcoming appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, airing December 2.
“He did a great job. I was very flattered that they did that,” the Bookie actor shared, adding that Hernandez captured his signature physical style and exaggerated delivery with real admiration.
Maniscalco, who has yet to debut on the iconic NBC sketch show, joked with Barrymore about his hopes of joining the Five-Timers Club, a milestone she has surpassed as a six-time host.
“I’m here today to kind of petition, and maybe you could help me,” he quipped. “You’re taking all the spots!”
The viral sketch aired during the November 15 episode of SNL, which was hosted by Glen Powell.
