James Cameron has revealed the one blockbuster he would’ve made far darker and that is, Jurassic Park.
The legendary filmmaker says he once believed he was meant to direct the adaptation of Michael Crichton’s hit novel but later realised losing the job to Steven Spielberg was for the best.
Cameron told Empire magazine he received the book on a Friday and went through it immediately.
He said, “I got to the scene in the book where the kids are in the Jeep… and I went: ‘I’m doing this movie.’”
Soon he called his agent to buy the rights where he was informed that he was “Too late" and "Steven Spielberg just got it.”
At the time, Cameron was crushed but now, he admits it worked out perfectly as he would’ve made the film far scarier.
He explained, “I would have made it too terrifying… It would have been R-rated. It would have been like Aliens with dinosaurs.”
Cameron says Spielberg delivered the version kids needed, filled with wonder instead of horror.
He added, “He made the version that would have spoken to me as an eight-year-old… and that’s the movie that should have been made.”
James Cameron’s candid remarks serve as a reminder that whatever happens, happens for the best, even in cinema.
