King Charles’s closest aides have reportedly noticed a “significant change” in the monarch’s demeanour since his cancer diagnosis, according to royal author Robert Jobson.
In his new book The Windsor Legacy: A Royal Dynasty of Secrets, Scandal and Survival, Jobson writes that staff who have served the King for decades describe him as “more emotional” and “softer” than before.
“He’s now become more expressive, and even sentimental at times,” one aide reportedly said, contrasting the King’s current warmth with his once “reserved and cold” persona.
The change is said to have come after advice from his trusted doctor, Dr Michael Dixon, who urged Charles to slow down and adopt healthier habits.
Jobson adds that Prince William has been encouraging his father to listen to medical advice and take more time for rest.
“Charles may joke about reaching the ‘decrepit stage’ of life,” Jobson writes, “but those closest to him see a gentler, more reflective King, one embracing his humanity as never before.”
